Bahir Dar stands out as one of the cities where these celebrations are observed with exceptional color and excitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bahir Dar City Administration is actively working to attract both international and domestic visitors to take part in the festivities. Under the theme \u201cJanuary in Bahir Dar,\u201d a wide range of activities is being organized to showcase the city\u2019s rich culture, natural beauty, and growing tourism appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Mayor of Bahir Dar and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for \u201cJanuary in Bahir Dar,\u201d Asme Birlie, said extensive preparations are underway to celebrate the month in a grand and engaging way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/615412494_909781934751928_6372596442010802056_n-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/615412494_909781934751928_6372596442010802056_n-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/615412494_909781934751928_6372596442010802056_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/615412494_909781934751928_6372596442010802056_n-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/615412494_909781934751928_6372596442010802056_n.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Mayor further explained that the festival officially began on January 1, 2018 (E.C.) with a cultural and arts festival and will continue through January 30, 2018, featuring a variety of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key highlights of the program include bicycle and canoe races, along with the religious celebration of Sebar St. George on January 18, one of the most important spiritual occasions of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Mayor noted that this year\u2019s celebration is especially distinctive, as Bahir Dar\u2019s beauty has been significantly enhanced through corridor development projects, improved infrastructure, and the creation of a dedicated and comfortable cycling route for the bicycle race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The month-long festivities will conclude with a beauty contest and a panel discussion, bringing the celebration to a colorful close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calling on foreign tourists and members of the Ethiopian diaspora, the Deputy Mayor invited all to visit Bahir Dar and experience the unique spirit of \u201cJanuary in Bahir Dar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Birhanu Workneh<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMN Plus -January 13\/2026 January is a special month in Ethiopia\u2019s Amhara Region, marked by a vibrant calendar of religious and cultural events.
