The 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council officially commenced today at the Union\u2019s headquarter in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s session is being held under the theme: \u201cAssuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme underscores Africa\u2019s commitment to ensuring water security and improved sanitation as key pillars for sustainable development across the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting has brought together African foreign ministers, ministers of state, senior officials, diplomats, and heads of AU institutions, all of whom are in Addis Ababa to participate in the high-level deliberations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the session, the Council will consider and deliberate on the agenda items previously discussed at the 51st Session of the African Union Permanent Representatives\u2019 Committee (PRC), held in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Executive Council is also expected to finalize and approve the agenda for the 39th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place from 14\u201315 February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Council\u2019s ordinary session will conclude on 12 February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
