United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has called for Africa to secure the representation and fair participation it rightfully deserves in global decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 39th African Union Summit is currently underway in Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the summit, Guterres stressed that Africa must have a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary-General also called for an immediate end to ongoing conflicts in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, and other parts of the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guterres reaffirmed the UN\u2019s commitment to strengthening efforts aimed at securing reliable financing for African peacekeeping operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary General further noted that although Africa contributes minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, it remains one of the regions most affected by climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guterres highlighted that the continent receives just 2 percent of global clean energy investment. He stressed that this must change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary-General pledged to stand firmly with Africa until the end of his term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
