{"id":1800,"date":"2026-03-18T12:59:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/?p=1800"},"modified":"2026-03-18T12:59:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:59:24","slug":"ethiopian-delegation-holds-high-level-talks-with-italy-to-advance-strategic-economic-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/ethiopian-delegation-holds-high-level-talks-with-italy-to-advance-strategic-economic-cooperation\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethiopian Delegation Holds High-Level Talks with Italy to Advance Strategic Economic Cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AMN Plus -March 18\/2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Ethiopian delegation led by Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, held constructive discussions in Rome with Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Italian Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation included Demitu Hambisa Bonsa, Ethiopia\u2019s Ambassador to Italy, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ethiopian Airlines Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussions focused on key areas of bilateral economic cooperation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Development Policy Financing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance agreed to finance Ethiopia\u2019s development policy program, to be co-financed with the World Bank\u2019s budget support program. This intervention will provide critical support to Ethiopia\u2019s ongoing macroeconomic reform agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Koysha Hydropower Project:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n-1024x756.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1802\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n-1024x756.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n-768x567.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n-1536x1135.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.amn.gov.et\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/653365870_961700322893422_6800239225202038863_n.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Italy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the completion of the Koysha Hydropower Project, including efforts to help close the remaining financing gap. Both sides acknowledged the significant progress made in advancing refinancing and securing new financing arrangements, and agreed to finalize the remaining steps within few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishoftu Airport Project Financing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting also explored potential collaboration on the Bishoftu Airport project, a national flagship initiative. The Italian Minister commended the strong performance of Ethiopian Airlines and confirmed Italy\u2019s support for financing selected components of the project through its financial institutions.
