In a message shared on her official social media page this evening following the conclusion of the city administration\u2019s nine-month performance review for the current fiscal year, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the administration has concluded its evaluation of the past nine months\u2019 performance while setting strategic directions for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have reviewed the performance of our city administration over the past nine months and outlined strategic directions for the future,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adanech noted that the review compared the administration\u2019s recent achievements with progress made over the past five years, identifying key results, promising successes, and areas requiring further improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The major highlights of activities carried out over the past five years, including the latest nine-month performance period, are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have worked extensively to strengthen shared community values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have elevated Addis Ababa\u2019s diplomatic status to a higher level, making it a capital city that not only Ethiopians but all Africans can take pride in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with our promise to make Addis Ababa as beautiful as its name suggests, we have reduced the proportion of mud houses in the city by 44 percent, down from 74 percent, transforming its previously poor appearance into a more attractive and livable urban environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor also stated that the city administration has implemented a school feeding program and provided uniforms for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, more than 5,000 playgrounds have been built for children across Addis Ababa, along with over 1,000 daycare centers to support childcare needs and provide relief for many parents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the statement, the city administration has established 30 Tesfa Birhan Feeding Centers across the city to support vulnerable groups, including elderly residents, people with disabilities, low-income earners, and those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor further stated that thousands of disadvantaged women have received support and become self-employed through the \u201cYelenegewa Women\u2019s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also noted that nursing homes for the elderly, as well as schools for deaf and blind students, have been built to ensure that the city\u2019s development efforts are inclusive and leave no one behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding environmental conservation, the mayor stated that polluted rivers have been rehabilitated, while improved housing has been provided for residents living in flood-prone and polluted riverside areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also noted that previously dark streets have been lit to enhance safety and improve accessibility across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the administration has constructed clean, standard public toilets on a large scale to enhance public comfort, preserve dignity, and protect community health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor further highlighted that road coverage in the city has increased from 12 percent to 20 percent. Numerous parking facilities, modern sanitation systems, major sewage lines, and water filtration and treatment centers have also been developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the city has expanded its drinking water supply by more than 70 percent and increased housing availability to 480,000 units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She pointed out that the city administration has constructed sports facilities and standard competition centers across various areas of the city to support the physical and mental development of young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor also underscored that new hospitals have been built and opened for service, while existing health institutions have been renovated and upgraded to meet standard service requirements. She further stated that the city\u2019s road and green space coverage has increased from 2.8 percent to 24 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the mayor, Addis Ababa has become one of the ten cleanest cities in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also noted that, as a growing tourism hub, the city hosted more than 200 international conferences during the first nine months of the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor stated that more than 60,000 projects have been completed and inaugurated through a combination of public participation and government budget support. She further noted that, in order to address long-standing challenges of slow service delivery, the city administration has introduced government services through six one-stop service centers and a digital mobile bus service, while the remaining five centers are expected to become operational soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, she explained that, to help reduce the cost of living, the city has expanded shopping centers and Sunday markets across different parts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor concluded by stating that an agreement has been reached to further strengthen the achievements and progress made so far, with the goal of making the city a symbol of prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also expressed her deep gratitude to all city residents who have worked alongside the administration in promoting development, peace, and social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
