The Heads of two major African election observation missions have held a post-election debriefing in Addis Ababa following Monday\u2019s general election in Ethiopia, marking a key step in the continental assessment of the country\u2019s electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Election Observation Mission Dr. Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, and the Head of the African Union Election Observation Mission, Uhuru Kenyatta, convened the meeting one day after the conclusion of polling in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consultations provided an opportunity for the Heads of Mission to review and consolidate observations gathered by their respective teams during election day and the immediate post-election period, as part of their ongoing assessment of the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The debrief brought together senior observers to consolidate findings from election-day monitoring and immediate post-election observations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions focused on preliminary assessments of the conduct of polling, voter participation, and overall electoral procedures across observed regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the IGAD and AU observer missions are expected to present their preliminary statements on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, outlining initial findings on Ethiopia\u2019s electoral process, including observations on transparency, organization, and voter engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
