The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Wednesday agreed to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector to enhance trade and investment and promote technology transfer, food security and livestock development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion to this end was held at the ministry of national food security and research, Islamabad between Oumer H. Oba (PhD), Ambassador of Ethiopia, and the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting explored various avenues for increasing agricultural cooperation, including an agro-pact to institutionalize collaboration and enable the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two countries’ agricultural institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador highlighted the potential of agricultural cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan, detailing the agrarian character of Ethiopia’s economy and the priority attached to the sector by the Government of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He presented Ethiopia\u2019s Green legacy Initiative as a holistic programme to promote sustainable development through agricultural growth, food security, climate resilience and a green economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethiopia can share its expertise in the Green Legacy Initiative with Pakistan, he said, while inviting Pakistani agricultural entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Minister highlighted Pakistan’s expertise in agricultural research, modern farming technologies, agricultural machinery, irrigation, livestock development and agro-processing, and expressed Pakistan’s readiness to share its experience and technical know-how with Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
