Ethiopia recorded significant political, economic, social, and technological achievements during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, underscoring the country\u2019s ongoing process of national renewal, the Government Communication Service (GCS) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Service made the statement while briefing the media on the context, themes, and key messages of this year\u2019s Pagumen Days celebrations, which mark the Ethiopian 13th month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his briefing, State Minister of the Government Communication Service Kebede Desisa said the achievements recorded during the concluding budget year provide sufficient grounds for observing Pagumen as \u201cEthiopia\u2019s Month of Renewal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned that the five Pagumen days will be marked through a range of activities organized around different themes, highlighting the country\u2019s achievements and encouraging citizens to contribute to its future development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the State Minister, the year was marked by an inclusive, free, and democratic national election, in which more than 54 million citizens registered to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also highlighted the conclusion of the national dialogue process, describing it as an important milestone in addressing longstanding differences, strengthening social cohesion, and laying a foundation for building a multinational Ethiopia around shared national aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kebede further noted that the year saw progress in consolidating national unity and enhancing Ethiopia\u2019s diplomatic capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the economic front, the State Minister said Ethiopia made progress toward establishing a more stable macroeconomic environment despite continuing global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the country made progress in reinforcing domestic revenue mobilization, with revenue collection exceeding 1.5 trillion birr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kebede elaborated that industrial productivity and foreign-exchange earnings also saw historic growth, while export earnings exceeded USD 10.2 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Minister further noted that, at a single international investment forum, memoranda of understanding worth more than USD 13.2 billion in investment were signed, with the majority of these investments subsequently progressing to the licensing stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned that agricultural production and productivity also increased significantly during the year, supported by improved access to agricultural inputs during both the summer and winter farming seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Minister said the government also made progress in improving good governance and public service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted the expansion of Addis Mesob one-stop service centers, which bring multiple public services together in one location to better respond to citizens\u2019 demands for efficient and accessible government services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

kebede also noted the extensive voluntary activities and infrastructure development initiatives undertaken to address citizens\u2019 social needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the infrastructure and productive sectors, he highlighted progress in renewable energy generation, the expansion of major basic industries, and the launch of several major infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the projects he cited were the construction of a fertilizer factory and the commencement of construction of Bishoftu International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Minister said the achievements registered during the year demonstrate that Ethiopia is moving beyond a period characterized by hope toward tangible and measurable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the progress achieved across political, economic, social, technological, and infrastructure sectors, together with ongoing major projects and the country\u2019s long-term development objectives, demonstrate that Ethiopia is on a path toward national renewal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
