During the formation of the new government and the opening session of the Fourth Addis Ababa City Council, the Council reappointed Adanech Abiebie as Mayor of Addis Ababa.

After being sworn in as mayor, Mayor Adanech said in her inaugural speech, “We have embarked on a new chapter in our journey to fulfill the mandate once again entrusted to us by the public through their voices.”

In her speech, Mayor Adanech reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to making Addis Ababa a city that is conducive to its residents and attractive to the international community, building on the progress achieved during her previous term.

She further emphasized that Addis Ababa should not be a city where some stand at the center while others remain on the sidelines, but rather a home for all nations and nationalities. By working together and building on the positive experiences already gained, she said, the city can achieve even greater success.

Mayor Adanech Abiebie emphasized that “humanity comes first,” stressing that her administration will prioritize people in every undertaking and work to transform Addis Ababa from a city known for competitiveness into one that is widely preferred and admired.

Referring to the newly established Addis Ababa City Administration Council and the opening of its first session as a reflection of the voice of the city’s residents, Mayor Adanech noted that women make up 41 percent of the council, while young people account for 40 percent, with the remaining seats representing various segments of society. She said this broad representation is aimed at creating an inclusive administration that reflects the capital city of a great country and serves as a model of development.

Mayor Adanech also recalled that the residents of Addis Ababa had entrusted their votes to representatives they believed would speak on their behalf. She said that, in return, her administration has embarked on a new chapter with a renewed sense of responsibility to honor the mandate entrusted to it by the people.

“We will work together, hand in hand, and accomplish more than we did yesterday. The people will support us, and together we will succeed,” she said.
