The Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process, which had been suspended in Ethiopia\u2019s Tigray Region, has resumed, with young people seeking to leave armed groups and return to peaceful civilian life registering in Mekele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, individuals willing to abandon armed struggle and return to civilian life are responding to calls for peace and registering at a designated center of the Tigray Police Commission in Mekele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some armed youths participating in the process said they had handed over their weapons to nearby units of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) before traveling to Mekele to complete their registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resumption of the DDR process is expected to provide an opportunity for former combatants affected by the conflict to transition out of military life and rebuild stable social and economic livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials of the National Rehabilitation Commission have previously urged young people in Tigray, particularly those affected by the previous conflict, not to lose hope and to take advantage of available opportunities to return to peaceful civilian life and rebuild their futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DDR program aims to facilitate the transition of individuals out of armed groups and back into civilian society, enabling them to contribute to peacebuilding and development efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coordination and support from the Ethiopian government, relevant institutions, and international partner organizations are considered essential to the successful implementation of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some participants interviewed during registration described the resumption of DDR as an important step toward leaving armed life behind and rebuilding their lives in peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Rehabilitation Commission has also called on individuals seeking to participate in the process to register at the Tigray Police Commission and the Northern Command center in Mekele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
