She emphasized that urban development is not merely about making cities beautiful and competitive, but also about improving the quality of life of citizens.

As preparations were underway for the construction of Ethiopia’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University, farmers who vacated their land to make way for this major national initiative have now become owners of modern residential homes designed to provide them with dignity and improved living conditions.

During the ceremony, Mayor Adanech handed over modern replacement residential and business facilities to the farmers, emphasizing that the significance of development extends beyond the construction and provision of houses.

She explained that development means respecting human life, strengthening social cohesion and building a more advanced future for the next generation.

Stressing that modernization of living conditions is essential, Mayor Adanech noted that living together in an integrated and well-connected community, rather than occupying large plots of land individually, can improve quality of life and preserve human dignity.

The modern residential village prepared for the farmers provides comprehensive amenities, including contemporary residential and business facilities designed to offer a clean environment and a child-friendly living space.

The development also includes convenient business shops, grain warehouses, flour mills and other economic facilities. It provides designated spaces where farmers can sell their produce directly, without the transportation difficulties they might otherwise face.

In addition, modern livestock fattening sheds have been constructed to help farmers integrate agricultural activities with modern practices.

The village also features childcare centers, sports fields and social facilities designed to strengthen community ties and ensure that elderly residents can enjoy their later years with dignity.

As Addis Ababa continues to enhance its appearance through riverside development and urban renewal projects, the farmers who are among the beneficiaries of this transformation have begun a new chapter of hope in their modern residential village.

By Leta Teresa

AMN PLUS-November 2, 2026 Addis Ababa is continually transforming, living up to its name by growing and renewing itself while changing the lifestyles of its residents and ensuring shared benefits.
