Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has described modern patriotism as transforming the nation through development.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the Keto Irrigation Infrastructure Project in the Kellem Wollega Zone of the Oromia Regional State.
The Prime Minister stated that the greatest lesson the current generation should learn from past patriots is development-oriented patriotism, one that frees the country from poverty and backwardness.
Recalling renowned patriot such as Abdisa Aga, Abiy noted that they made the ultimate sacrifices for the sovereignty of their country and the dignity of all Black people, with the aim of passing on a sovereign and proud nation to future generations.
The Prime Minister emphasized that today this spirit of patriotism must be transformed into work, productivity, and technological advancement to improve the lives of the people.
Speaking on patriotism, the Prime Minister emphasized that heroism is not only forged on the battlefield, but also demonstrated through diligent work and technological advancement that drive national development.
Referring to the unity demonstrated by Ethiopian patriots during the historic Battle of Adwa and other battlefields, the Prime Minister said such unity remains essential for today’s journey toward prosperity.
The Prime Minister underscored the urgent need to avoid division, resentment, and disdain, calling on all citizens to stand united for national development.
The Prime Minister also noted that corridor development and other infrastructure projects underway in the Kellem Wollega area are encouraging signs of progress. Abiy urged the public to actively participate in peace-building efforts so that these development initiatives can grow and expand.
Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that peace is the foundation of everything and called on all citizens to stand together for the sustainable growth and development of the country.
