In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the city administration had held a productive discussion with religious fathers and leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Addis Ababa under the theme, “Religious Institutions in the Government’s Vision of Synergy.”
The Mayor stated that the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church continues to play a vital role in nation-building, working alongside other religious institutions across the country.
The Mayor noted that the Church has long been instrumental in preserving Ethiopia’s ancient traditions, history, and heritage, passing them on to future generations, while also nurturing the youth, promoting moral values and human dignity, strengthening social cohesion, and contributing meaningfully to national development.
She reaffirmed that, both throughout history and during the recent years of transformation, the Church has remained a key force in advancing peace, development, and prosperity in the city.
The Mayor further emphasized that today’s discussion underscored the Church’s significant contribution to social cohesion, peacebuilding, national progress, and the collective benefit of all Ethiopians.
She added that the discussion platform created a constructive space to jointly address existing challenges and achieve productive outcomes.
“The discussions held across the sub-cities have clearly defined the roles and shared responsibilities of both the government and religious institutions,” the Mayor underscored.
Finally, the Mayor expressed heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed fathers and leaders of the Orthodox Tewahedo Church for their active participation and for sharing their valuable and constructive insights on behalf of the city administration.
