Ethiopia Takes part in the BRICS Urbanization Forum 2026

Ethiopia presented its National Urban Transformation Strategy at the 13th BRICS Urbanisation Forum held in June 2026 in New Delhi, showcasing its vision for sustainable and inclusive urban development.

The forum, hosted under the theme “Cities for People: BRICS Cooperation for Inclusive and Resilient Urban Futures,” chaired by India’s Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar. It convened member states to address shared global challenges, including climate risks and infrastructure financing.

The Ethiopian delegation, highlighted Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s initiatives to transition hundreds of towns into clean, Green, modern, and smart urban centres.

Reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to multilateralism, the delegation underscored the potential for intra-BRICS cooperation and proposed increased city-twinning arrangements to foster joint progress.

The two-day forum concluded with the adoption of a joint Declaration that establishes a unified roadmap for BRICS nations to build sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient cities, Embassy of Ethiopia, New Delhi
