Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie announced that the Addis Ababa City Administration is carrying out focused activities to ensure women’s comprehensive benefits and enable them to rebuild their lives with renewed hope.
“Everything we do is intended to bring about a change in people’s lives,” Mayor Adanech said.
The Mayor made the remarks while graduating trainees from the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center. She emphasized that the success of citizens who have benefited from the training provided at the center is regarded by the city administration as one of its major achievements.
The Mayor stated that there is not a single trainee who has completed their training at Lenegewa without obtaining a job opportunity. However, she noted that differences can be observed in the extent to which the trainees have utilized the employment opportunities available to them.
She also expressed her deep belief and encouragement to the graduates, telling them that tomorrow will be brighter, more successful, and that they will become role models for others.
Noting that life is not always smooth and that they may encounter various challenges and ups and downs, the Mayor said that the skills they acquired at the center, together with the life experiences they gained yesterday, will help them become winners.
She explained that winning begins with believing that any obstacle encountered along the way can be overcome and knowing how to overcome it with wisdom. She reminded them that they will always be winners as long as they do not give up.
The Mayor further expressed her belief that, beyond training vulnerable women, the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center will, as vulnerability decreases in the future, develop into a major women’s institution, comparable to a university of excellence, where the graduates can share their experiences.
Stating that “our main focus is people,” the Mayor said that everything the administration does is intended to bring about a change in people’s lives.
She added that the efforts being made to develop the city and the country are ultimately aimed at transforming people’s way of life, reaffirming the administration’s unwavering commitment to the comprehensive well-being and development of citizens.
