In a message shared on her official social media platform this afternoon, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the city administration has inaugurated and put into service four modern vehicle parking facilities, terminals, and market centers in Gotera, Bole, Yeka, and Kebena.
The newly inaugurated facilities are designed to ease traffic congestion, improve the city’s transportation system, protect residents from exposure to rain and sun, and create numerous job opportunities. They provide convenient, clean, and dignified modern services for residents.
The facilities include modern parking spaces capable of accommodating large numbers of vehicles at a time; taxi and bus terminals; electric vehicle charging stations aimed at reducing air pollution; spacious public recreational areas; commercial shops, cafeterias, and restaurants; children’s playgrounds and resting areas; comfortable passenger waiting areas; modern management and ticketing technologies; elevators; clean sanitation facilities; as well as safety and emergency-prevention systems.
According to the mayor, these facilities will make a significant contribution to improving economic and social services in the city.
“Before the reform, our one-time vehicle parking capacity stood at only 3,000, while we had no terminals at all. Today, we have been able to expand modern vehicle parking facilities and terminals, built with quality and speed, to more than 170,000,” Mayor Adanech said.
She added that the city administration is working with commitment and integrity to turn its promises into tangible actions that benefit Addis Ababa residents.
“Addis Ababa deserves even more, and we will continue to work harder to achieve more than what we have accomplished so far,” she said.
Mayor Adanech also expressed her gratitude to the leadership and staff of the Design and Construction Bureau, the Transport Bureau, contractors, consultants, and all others who contributed to making the newly inaugurated projects a reality.
