Speaking about the formation of the new government, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said the selection of the newly nominated cabinet members was guided primarily by their proven performance, effectiveness, and capacity to deliver tangible results, rather than by academic qualifications alone.
Presenting the proposed cabinet to the House of Peoples’ Representatives, the Prime Minister said several key criteria were taken into consideration in selecting the nominees. He emphasized that academic credentials, while important, are not by themselves sufficient to ensure effective leadership and successful public service.
According to Prime Minister Abiy, the nominees were selected based on their ability to translate knowledge and ideas into concrete actions and measurable results, as well as their capacity for effective follow-up, discipline, and execution.
He further noted that priority was given to individuals who had demonstrated tangible achievements and successfully delivered results in their respective areas of responsibility.

The Prime Minister said Ethiopia has developed a long-term Medemer strategy extending to 2050, and stressed that the new leaders are expected to understand the strategy and play an effective role in its implementation. He emphasized that the country’s development efforts must ultimately translate into tangible and meaningful benefits for citizens.
Prime Minister Abiy also said the composition of the proposed cabinet took into account Ethiopia’s current circumstances and sought to reflect the country’s diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, and faith.
He called on the proposed cabinet members to serve the public with integrity, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility, while taking firm action against corruption, maladministration, and other practices that undermine effective governance.
