Deputy CEO of Pulse of Africa, Fitsum Eshet Shimelis, said social media influencers have a vital role to play in shaping Africa’s narrative and advancing the continent’s shared aspirations.
The African Social Media Influencers Summit is set to take place on May 7 and 8, 2026, at the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa. Ahead of the summit, a discussion was held with relevant stakeholders on ways Ethiopian social media influencers can actively engage and seize the opportunities the platform offers.
Speaking at the event, Fitsum stressed that the responsibility of building a positive and authentic African narrative largely rests in the hands of African social media influencers.
Fitsum noted that Africa has long been affected by distorted narratives, adding that Pulse of Africa was established as an African media platform dedicated to reshaping and amplifying the continent’s true story.
The deputy CEO further emphasized that while Pulse of Africa began in Ethiopia, its vision extends across the continent. Through close collaboration with social media influencers, he said, the platform aims to project Africa’s true image to the global community.
Teshome Teklu, CEO of the Tourism Promotion Sector at the Ministry of Tourism, highlighted Ethiopia’s vast wealth of heritage, history, and culture. Teshome also affirmed that the Ministry of Tourism is ready to provide the necessary support to Ethiopian social media influencers in promoting the country’s vast tourism potential.
Meanwhile, CEO of AGA Tech Enterprise, Gemeda Olana, said the summit will play a significant role in strengthening the image of both Ethiopia and Africa. Gemeda added that enhanced collaboration among African social media influencers can serve as a catalyst for fostering greater continental unity.
