The 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union has commenced in Addis Ababa.

Speaking at the opening, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf highlighted that water and sanitation are essential to the daily lives of African peoples.

Mahamoud Ali Youssouf called on Member States to jointly protect and manage these shared resources, noting that this year’s theme for the 39th African Union Assembly focuses on water and sanitation.

The Chairperson further emphasized that water, as a vital natural resource, should serve as a unifying factor for Africans.
