In a remarkable achievement, the Addis Ababa City Administration Labor and Skills Bureau has announced the creation of permanent employment opportunities for more than 158,000 youth and women including graduates from various universities within just the past four months.
This initiative highlights the city’s ongoing efforts to address youth unemployment and empower women through sustainable job solutions.

As part of these efforts, the city this morning organized a One-Day Job Creation Mobilization Program at the Addis Ababa Stadium, aiming to provide employment opportunities for over 30,000 youth across the city.
This event brought together a wide range of participants, including Mayor Adanech Abiebie, federal government officials, senior city officials, youth, and other key stakeholders committed to driving employment solutions.
Million Mathios, Under the rank of deputy mayor of Addis Ababa & Head of the Labor and Skills Bureau, shared insights on the program, stating, “the youth and women who benefited from this mobilization had long been advocating for such opportunities. Through careful coordination with relevant institutions and organizations, the city administration has successfully ensured sustainable employment by creating job placements and workspaces for more than 30,000 residents.”

The Bureau also highlighted its commitment to providing technical skills training to over 300,000 job seekers annually, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive in the workforce.
Looking ahead, the administration has set its sights on creating jobs for over 350,000 residents in the upcoming budget year. The Bureau’s efforts continue to demonstrate that by working closely with local and federal institutions, the city can offer long-term, sustainable employment opportunities that benefit both individuals and the broader community.
