Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) emphasized the growing importance of data sovereignty, noting that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy has achieved nearly all of its intended objectives.
The official review of Digital Ethiopia 2025 and the launch of Digital Ethiopia 2030 took place recently.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed explained that Digital Ethiopia 2030 builds on the successes of its predecessor, with a strong focus on expanding digital access, ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens, and strengthening trust between citizens and institutions.
The Prime Minister further highlighted that major efforts will be directed toward expanding public digital infrastructure to ensure these pillars are fully realized.
Speaking at the launching ceremony Abiy highlighted Ethiopia’s initiatives to share Faida and Telebir technologies with other African countries, describing these efforts as the beginning of a broader movement to unlock Africa’s technological potential.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of empowering local private companies and startups to compete across African markets, noting that this would not only strengthen data sovereignty but also enhance the continent’s ability to leverage external data effectively.
The Prime Minister called on institutions and public officials to actively support the private sector, particularly startups by facilitating access to technical expertise, financing, and market opportunities, enabling them to enter the market and achieve sustainable profitability.
Finally, the Prime Minister encouraged government institutions and academic bodies to study the strategy, describing it not only as a long-term plan but also as a learning journey that demonstrates how national capacity can grow to meet ambitious goals.
