Speaker of the House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager, said that Fichee-Chambalaalla plays a significant role in strengthening social cohesion by promoting unity and togetherness.
The Fichee-Chambalaalla festival, which marks the Sidama New Year, is currently being celebrated in a colorful ceremony at Soreesa Gudumale in Hawassa.
Speaking at the celebration, Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager said that Fichee-Chambalaalla is a great Ethiopian festival with a unique identity and distinctive character.
The Speaker noted that the festival is a New Year celebration that teaches togetherness, peace, and forgiveness, adding that it plays a major role in strengthening social bonds by promoting unity and solidarity.
The speaker also stated that Fichee-Chambalaalla, which heralds the Sidama New Year, is an occasion when people set aside resentment and grievances and welcome the new year in peace and forgiveness.
Agegnehu further explained that the celebration of Fichee-Chambalaalla, which serves as a foundation for unity and togetherness, creates a favorable opportunity for children and young people to learn about their culture and ensure its transmission to future generations without dilution.
The speaker added that values recognized by UNESCO, including Chambalaalla, serve as instruments of Ethiopia’s diplomacy, and emphasized the need to preserve these cultural values and pass them on to future generations.
The speaker called on all stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities so that the 7th General Election scheduled for this year can be concluded peacefully and democratically.
