The Agaw People’s Horse Culture, a celebration of heritage and history, is being observed this year with renewed energy and grandeur as it marks its 86th anniversary.
Held annually on January 31, the festival draws over 100,000 visitors and cultural enthusiasts to the zonal capital, Injibara, to witness the rich traditions of the Agaw people.
The event features spectacular cultural displays, including a striking parade of more than 30 new tractors purchased by the Awi Nationality Administration Zone, showcasing the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
“Historically, horses were vital tools for agricultural work. Today, they stand as symbols of our culture and heritage, while tractors represent the advancement of modern agriculture and development,” stated Tewodrose, Chief Administrator of the Awi Nationality Administration Zone.
The chief administrator also confirmed that all preparations have been completed to ensure the festival is safe and successful, with thousands of participants expected to take part in the celebrations.
The Agaw Horse Culture stands as a symbol of bravery, unity, and cultural identity, attracting attention from Ethiopians across the globe.
By combining historical tradition with modern innovation, the festival not only celebrates Agaw horse culture but also highlights the significant potential of Ethiopia’s tourism sector, showcasing the country’s rich cultural legacy in action.
