Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Adanech Abiebie, stated that the government will continue to serve all religious institutions equally and fairly, in accordance with their values and teachings.
The mayor noted that, as has been done with other religious institutions, the city administration held a fruitful discussion today with leaders of the Ethiopian Evangelical, Catholic, and Seventh-day Adventist Churches under the theme “Religious Institutions in the Perspective of the Medemer State.”
According to the mayor, Evangelical, Catholic, and Seventh-day Adventist churches have made significant contributions to peace-building, development efforts, strengthening people-to-people relations, and promoting unity. The institutions have also played an important role in educating the younger generation, nurturing moral values, preserving history and heritage, and promoting them to the global community.
The Mayor added that these institutions, together with other religious Institutions, have also contributed to introducing technology in the country and encouraging a strong work culture.
The mayor emphasized that, both historically and during the recent reform years, these institutions have continued to play a vital role in the overall peace-building, development, and prosperity journey of Addis Ababa.
During the discussion forum, participants deliberated on ways to strengthen social cohesion, expand participation in social development and volunteer activities, promote a strong work ethics, and nurture a generation grounded in ethical values. Discussions also focused on encouraging charitable activities, enhancing good governance and service delivery, promoting peace, and preventing illegal activities while standing together for Ethiopia’s prosperity and national interest.
The forum also served as an effective platform to jointly address gaps and grievances that emerged during the ongoing work and were raised in the course of the discussions.
The mayor noted that the platform serves as a summary of discussions previously held in each sub cities and clearly outlines the respective roles and contributions of the government and religious institutions.
Finally, Mayor Adanech expressed her sincere appreciation to the leaders of the Evangelical, Catholic, and Ethiopian Seventh-day Adventist churches for their active participation and constructive ideas.
