Ethiopia has Captured Global Attention with Groundbreaking Discovery of 2.6-Million-Year-Old Fossil at the Mille-Logya paleontological site in the Afar Region
This discovery is especially significant, as scientists have confirmed that this species is distinct and previously undocumented in Ethiopia.
The fossil was unearthed by an international team of experts led by the world-renowned Professor Zeresenay Alemseged of the University of Chicago.
Highlighting the importance of the discovery , Elias Shkur, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Heritage Authority, noted that it reinforces Ethiopia’s enduring status as the “Cradle of Humankind.”
Professor Zeresenay explained that the study reveals this Paranthropus species possessed remarkable adaptability to diverse environments, enabling it to thrive across multiple habitats. Beyond its scientific significance, the discovery is expected to bolster Ethiopia’s tourism sector and enhance its international diplomatic profile.
