Ethiopia participated in the joint meeting of the 9th Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and the 5th STC on Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals of the African Union, held under the theme βFinancing Africaβs Industrialization for Sustainable Developmentβ from 20β24 July 2026 in Abidjan, CΓ΄te dβIvoire.
During the meeting, Ethiopia presented its key initiatives and priorities for economic development and industrialization.
In his remarks, Bereket Diriba, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the African Union and UNECA, highlighted that under Ethiopiaβs Ten-Year Development Plan, the country has formulated policies and reform measures aimed at achieving structural transformation across key sectors, including manufacturing, tourism, mining, technology, and agriculture.

He further noted that Ethiopia has implemented tangible reforms to strengthen domestic resource mobilization to finance its development plans, particularly by enhancing the role of the private sector in the economy, broadening the tax base through reforms in tax policies and regulations, and improving the management of the monetary system through measures such as exchange-rate reforms and digitalization.
The five-day meeting concluded with the adoption of the report of the expertsβ session and the ministerial declaration by the Joint STC of the African Union, according to the Minstry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
