Ethiopia, EU Deepen Cooperation on Nuclear Development and Safety

Commissioner Sandokan Debebe held discussions with Sofie From-Emmesberger, Ambassador of the European Union to Ethiopia, Sinikka Antila and Pirjo-Liisa Hekkila, Head of Mission and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland and Julien Voituriez, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France, on strengthening cooperation in the energy and nuclear sectors.

The meeting focused on establishing a joint framework for collaboration on Ethiopia’s nuclear programme, with emphasis on experience sharing, regulatory frameworks, nuclear waste management, human resource development, and stakeholder engagement.

Finland and France highlighted their extensive expertise in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and underscored the importance of international partnerships in supporting Ethiopia’s nuclear roadmap.

The discussions reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening cooperation with the European Union to promote sustainable, safe, and responsible nuclear development in Ethiopia as to Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission reported it.
