Mayor Chalachew Dagne announced that Gondar City has completed extensive preparations to welcome more than two million visitors for the upcoming Timket (Epiphany) celebration.

The mayor noted that January is a special month when Gondar shines at its best, emphasizing that Timket is a festival during which Ethiopia’s culture, faith, and spirit of unity are most vividly expressed.

Mayor Chalachew highlighted the full renovation of the historic Fasilides Palace, one of the nation’s most treasured heritages carried out under the government’s development initiative.

He said the palace has been restored to its original splendor and is now illuminated, allowing visitors to tour the site every evening. The renewed palace is ready to welcome both domestic and international tourists.

To accommodate the expected influx of visitors, the city has arranged various transportation options, including additional flight services to Gondar. Hotels have also finalized preparations to host guests from within the country and abroad.

The mayor further stated that the long-standing community tradition known as the “One Guest for One Household” program, practiced by Gondar residents over the past three years will continue this year in a strengthened manner, reflecting the city’s renowned hospitality.

In addition, a range of activities has been prepared to encourage tourists to extend their stay in the historic city.

Mayor Chalachew invited all visitors to take part in the Timket celebrations while also exploring the newly renovated Fasilides Palace and the city’s recently developed corridor projects.

Gondar, he said, stands ready to offer an unforgettable Timket experience that blends faith, history, culture, and renewed urban beauty.
