Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie in a social Media Post this afternoon sated that Addis Ababa is emerging as a Model for African Cities!
She said, “Today, we welcomed participants of the 2026 African Mayors Leadership Initiative (AMALI) Mayors Leadership Forum, hosted in Addis Ababa for the second time. The forum provides a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, learn from one another, and share our city’s ongoing transformation journey.”
The Mayor stated that Addis Ababa’s transformation is guided by the forward-looking vision of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) “We are translating this vision into tangible development results. Through investments in transport, housing, technology-enabled public services, and the development of future generations, we are working to improve the lives of our residents,” Mayor Adanech said.
“By building on our own financial and knowledge capacities, we are developing solutions that offer valuable lessons for cities across Africa and beyond, while opening new opportunities for urban development,” the Mayor added.
She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to making Addis Ababa the best city in Africa to raise children.
“Above all, we remain firmly committed to making Addis Ababa the best city in Africa to raise children. By strengthening our Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiatives, we have placed children’s well-being, education, and future opportunities at the heart of our city’s development agenda.

Mayor Adanech further explained that, alongside AMALI leaders and forum participants, she officially inaugurated a uniquely designed childcare center in Addis Ababa.
“Together with AMALI leaders and forum participants, we also inaugurated and opened for service a uniquely designed childcare center in Addis Ababa, named in memory of the Honorable Lisa Diego, whose contribution to the program has been invaluable,” she said.
Mayor Adanech extended her heartfelt appreciation to Jemmy Cooper, Founder, Chair, and President of Big Win Philanthropy; Kesetebrihan Admasu (PhD), CEO of the Foundation; and all the advisors and program leaders for their invaluable contributions to the success of this initiative.
