Ethiopia is advancing with unwavering determination to become Africa’s leading energy hub by unlocking and harnessing its vast renewable energy potential.

Most recently, the country inaugurated and launched the Aysha-2 Wind Power Project, an important milestone that further strengthens Ethiopia’s ambition to establish itself as a continental hub for clean and sustainable energy.

Speaking on the matter, Ethiopian Electric Power Communication Director, Moges Mekonnen, stated that a comprehensive national energy policy framework has been formulated and put into action to effectively channel the nation’s abundant natural resources toward accelerated economic growth.

The director further underscored that a regional cooperation framework has been designed and is now being implemented to facilitate cross-border power supply and energy trade with neighboring countries, in line with Ethiopia’s growing renewable energy capacity.

Moges also highlighted that the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), in addition to dramatically increasing power generation capacity, is expected to cut carbon emissions by up to two million tons annually, playing a pivotal role in the global fight against climate change.

In recent years, Ethiopia’s sustained focus on the energy sector has delivered promising results, particularly in the development of wind, solar, and geothermal power.

Ethiopia is steadily emerging as a global leader in green development, making a meaningful and lasting contribution to international efforts to combat climate change.
