Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the city has laid the cornerstone for the construction of additional residential buildings.
In a message shared on her official social media page, the mayor said the foundation stone was laid today for the construction of two additional G+8 residential buildings, replacing existing shanty houses.
The Mayor explained that five old houses have been removed and replaced with modern residential apartments, which will benefit not only the residents who previously lived there but also people living in difficult conditions in nearby kebele houses.
The mayor also stated that the city administration has fundamentally reformed the housing transfer system, making it more transparent by conducting public lottery draws and handing over keys openly to beneficiaries.
Mayor Adanech expressed her gratitude to Awash Bank and MNRC Raw Materials Import and Export Company for pledging to support the project by covering the construction costs of the buildings.
