Addis Ababa is currently deliberating on a comprehensive urban forest development strategy designed to guide the city’s green development over the next decade.
The City’s Urban Beautification and Green Development Bureau announced that ongoing efforts aim to ensure all residents benefit equitably from green development initiatives.
Speaking on the issue, Bureau Head Girma Seifu stated that the city’s green development activities are being implemented in a manner that promotes social equity, allowing residents to benefit without economic discrimination.

As part of this effort, the Bureau is finalizing discussions on the “Addis Ababa City Forest Strategy,” a ten-year plan that will provide a structured framework for managing and expanding the city’s green spaces.
The strategy, which covers the period from 2026/27 to 2036/37, is expected to play a key role in guiding sustainable urban development and environmental management in the years ahead.
Officials noted that the preparation process has undergone multiple rounds of revision and stakeholder consultations, with today’s discussion marking its final stage before implementation.
