Head of the African Union Election Observe Mission and former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with representatives of the African diplomatic community based in Addis Ababa ahead of Ethiopia’s seventh general election, scheduled to take place tomorrow.
According to the African Union’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, the discussions focused on preparations for the election and related matters.
Kenyatta is leading a team of 73 short-term observers drawn from 37 African countries. The delegation includes election experts, human rights advocates, and civil society representatives. With the composition of the mission reflects African Unions commitment to gender balance and democratic oversight.

The observers have reviewed final preparations undertaken by the government and the National Election Board of Ethiopia. With more than 54 million registered voters, the election is regarded as an important event in Ethiopia’s political process.
Ethiopia has finalized logistical and security arrangements for the election. The observer mission, led by Kenyatta, is expected to deploy across the country to monitor the voting process and assess its transparency and fairness.
The presence of the African Union’s observers in Ethiopian soil reflects the continent’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s democratic journey and ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
