In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the city has successfully held a massive and vibrant support rally, demonstrating strong backing for the vision and goals of the Prosperity Party and energizing its campaign for the upcoming 7th national and city-wide general election.
The Mayor emphasized that elections are the cornerstone of building a democratic system in any country. She noted that elections serve as the primary mechanism through which the sovereignty of the people is expressed and governments are formed based on the will of the people
“It is impossible to establish a government without elections, and no meaningful outcome can be achieved without public participation and decision-making,” she reaffirmed.
According to the Mayor, prosperity can only be sustained through the will of the people. When citizens are guaranteed and exercise their right to decide, nothing can hinder Ethiopia’s journey toward inclusive growth and national prosperity.
She further stressed that there is no room for marginalization, oppression, or dominance by any group in Ethiopia, adding that the city administration is actively implementing inclusive development that leaves no one behind in Addis Ababa.
“We have developed recreational and sports facilities so that elders can live comfortably, children can grow and play freely, and young people can access opportunities, develop both physically and mentally, and realize their aspirations,” she said.
Highlighting key urban improvements, the Mayor stated that the proportion of slum areas in the city has been reduced from 74 percent to 30 percent. “Streets that were once dark are now illuminated, and narrow roads have been expanded. We are building a clean, green, and beautiful city that enhances the dignity, comfort, and health of our residents,” she added.
She also noted that Addis Ababa is now ranked among Africa’s ten cleanest cities. Looking ahead to the upcoming elections, the Mayor pledged that, if elected, the administration will work tirelessly to ensure lasting peace and comprehensive prosperity without compromise.
She explained that the Prosperity Party’s manifesto is focused on sustaining past achievements, addressing longstanding challenges, making effective use of present opportunities, shaping a better future, and positioning Ethiopia as a model nation.
Urging citizens to support the party, she stated that choosing the Prosperity Party means making a decision to move beyond poverty and backwardness toward a secure and promising future, as well as embracing genuine democracy.
“Our election symbol, a sheaf of wheat, represents unity, cooperation, productivity, excellence, dignity, and sovereignty,” the Mayor said.
She concluded by affirming that the Prosperity Party is committed to honoring its promises, fulfilling its responsibilities, and empowering citizens as the true holders of sovereign authority.
At the rally, the Mayor also extended her heartfelt gratitude to residents of Addis Ababa who have consistently shown their support and turned out in large numbers with great enthusiasm.
