The Tuulama Oromo Gadaa has conducted its 71st power transition ceremony at the historic site known as Dhakaa Koraa.

The Tuulama Oromo Gadaa which had been under the stewardship of Abba Gadaa Gobena Hola of the Melbaa Gadaa Class for the past eight years, officially transferred authority to the Mudana Gadaa.

Accordingly, Abba Gadaa Getu Telila Tufa of the Mudana Class formally assumed leadership as the new Abba Gadaa of Tuulama, receiving the Alangee—the ceremonial whip that symbolizes authority and leadership.

The Oromo Gadaa system is a centuries-old indigenous democratic institution recognized globally as an intangible cultural heritage. The system continues to play a crucial role in preserving and transmitting the Oromo people’s culture, values, traditions, and ethical principles from one generation to the next.

Historical records indicate that the Gadaa system promotes peace and reconciliation, strengthens community participation, safeguards cultural identity, upholds equality, and instills the principles of peaceful and orderly leadership succession.

In line with these longstanding traditions and values, the Tuulama Gadaa successfully completed its 71st transfer of power from Gadaa Melbaa to Gadaa Mudana.

During the ceremony, Abba Gadaa Getu Telila Tufa received the Bokkuu, the revered scepter symbolizing authority, along with the Alangee, formally marking the commencement of his leadership.

The colorful traditional ceremony featured cultural feasts, blessings, folk songs, and dances, as the Oromo People warmly welcomed and celebrated their new Abba Gadaa with great joy.
