Ethiopiaβs 7th National General Election, held on 1 June 2026, is widely regarded as one of Africaβs largest democratic exercises this year. The election attracted significant attention both domestically and internationally, with more than 54 million registered voters eligible to participate and 42 political parties contesting for seats at the federal and regional levels.
According to the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), the Prosperity Party emerged victorious in the election, securing 438 seats in the House of Peoplesβ Representatives nationwide.
NEBE announced the successful completion of the nationwide voting process and commended millions of Ethiopians for exercising their constitutional right to vote with patience, vigilance, and a strong sense of civic responsibility.
Following the Prosperity Partyβs landslide victory, political parties that participated in the electoral process have begun issuing statements acknowledging the outcome, sharing their views on the election, and extending congratulations to the winning party.

Among them, the Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice (EZEMA) congratulated the peaceful conclusion of the electoral process. In its statement, the party said it secured 13 seats in the House of Peoplesβ Representatives and 73 seats in regional and city councils, bringing its total representation to 86 seats nationwide.
EZEMA described the result as making it the leading opposition party in the country. The party also called on the victorious Prosperity Party to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure a fair political environment that provides equal opportunities for all political actors.
Similarly, the National Movement of Amhara (NAMA) congratulated the peaceful completion of Ethiopiaβs 7th General Election. The party stated that it won six seats in the House of Peoplesβ Representatives and two seats in regional and city councils, bringing its total representation to eight seats.

NAMA described the election as a decisive milestone in Ethiopiaβs history, achieved through the determination and sacrifices of citizens committed to safeguarding peace and stability. The party noted that the election reflected the publicβs strong desire for a better political and socio-economic future.
The Addis Ababa Political Parties Joint Council has also issued a statement following the announcement of the election results. The Council stated that the 7th General Election was conducted and concluded in a peaceful and democratic manner, with the Prosperity Party winning the majority of votes.
In its statement, the Council extended heartfelt congratulations to the Prosperity Party for its victory through the free choice of the people, as well as to all political parties that secured representation in legislative councils.

The Council further expressed its appreciation to all participating political parties for their positive and historic contributions to the successful conduct of the election and the strengthening of Ethiopiaβs democratic culture.
Reaffirming its commitment to national development, the Addis Ababa Political Parties Joint Council stated that it is ready to work alongside the victorious Prosperity Party through active participation, constructive criticism, and alternative policy proposals. The Council said such cooperation would contribute to ensuring sustainable peace, development, and good governance in Addis Ababa and across Ethiopia.
