Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie Commends Top-Performing Public Institutions, Says Hard Work Earns Recognition.
Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie, in a statement released on her official social media platform this afternoon, announced that the city administration has recognized and rewarded government Bureaus, public institutions, sub-cities, and districts that achieved outstanding performance during the 2026 fiscal year.
The mayor said the recognition was awarded to institutions that delivered tangible results in improving public service and ensuring greater benefits for residents.
Among cabinet-level bureaus receiving vehicle awards were:
1st: Peace and Security Bureau
2nd: Health Bureau
3rd: Revenue Bureau and the Design and Construction Works Bureau
4th: Education Bureau
Special Award: Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center
Among Addis Ababa’s sub-cities, vehicle awards were presented to:
1st: Bole Sub-city
2nd: Lemi Kura Sub-city
3rd: Addis Ketema Sub-city
Among non-cabinet institutions, vehicle awards went to:
1st: Law Enforcement Authority
2nd: Roads Authority
3rd: Water and Sewerage Authority
4th: Drivers and Vehicles Licensing and Control Authority
5th: Cleaning Management Agency
The mayor also noted that 33 districts were recognized, with between one and three top-performing districts selected from each sub-city.
Certificate awards were also presented to several institutions.
Among cabinet-level bureaus receiving certificates were the Finance Bureau, Industry Development Bureau, Communication Bureau, Trade Bureau, and Justice Bureau.
Among non-cabinet institutions, certificate recipients included the Civil Registration and Residency Service, Workplace Development Administration, and Addis Media Network.
Certificate awards among sub-cities went to Kolfe, Lideta, and Yeka sub-cities.
Mayor Adanech emphasized that the recognition belongs not only to the award-winning institutions but also to leaders, professionals at all levels, stakeholders, and the residents who worked together to achieve the results.
She said the awards are intended to strengthen collaboration, encourage healthy competition, inspire lower-performing institutions to improve, and reinforce commitment to delivering better public services rather than create complacency.
The mayor added that the recognition carries a responsibility for the coming fiscal year to work even harder to improve service delivery, expand access to public services, and ensure greater benefits for the people of Addis Ababa.
