Ethiopia’s Minister of Defense, Engineer Aisha Mohammed, has announced that diplomatic and military cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States has reached a new and higher strategic level.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 African Logistics and Communication Symposium (ALCS) in Addis Ababa, the minister said Ethiopia’s selection to host the prestigious continental event reflects the growing mutual trust, deepening partnership, and expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Engineer Aisha described the symposium as more than a technical gathering, emphasizing that it provides an important platform for African nations and international partners to strengthen collaboration, exchange knowledge and best practices, and deepen their shared commitment to building capable, interconnected, and future-ready institutions across the continent.
She noted that the symposium is designed to enhance operational readiness through collaboration and innovation, improve interoperability among African defense forces, and promote stronger contributions to peace, security, and sustainable development throughout Africa.
The opening ceremony brought together senior government and military officials, including U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga, Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Douglas Anderson, Head of Ethiopia’s Defense Logistics Main Department Lieutenant General Abdurahman Ismail, delegates from 40 African countries, and representatives of 26 leading international industry partners, according to Ethiopian National Defense Force online media.
