Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed (PhD), said that throughout Ethiopia’s history, the Oromo and Amhara peoples have lived together for generations and share a deep-rooted bond built over many years.
Speaking in an interview with the Amhara Media Corporation, Prime Minister Abiy said the Oromo and Amhara have not only worked together to build Ethiopia have also strengthened their relationship through intermarriage and shared child-adoption traditions, creating enduring social ties.
He noted that the two nations also lived together during the administrations of previous governments.
He added that Ethiopia’s modern state-building process, which began under Emperor Tewodros II and was consolidated during the reign of Emperor Menelik II, including the Victory of Adwa, was achieved through the collective efforts of the country’s peoples.
Prime Minister Abiy further stated that Ethiopia’s history clearly demonstrates that its peoples have long engaged in trade together, forged family ties through marriage, stood united in defense of the country’s unity, and worked collectively for development.
He emphasized that this tradition of peaceful coexistence is not unique to the Oromo and Amhara peoples but is also widely reflected among many of Ethiopia’s other communities.
