Addis Ababa is more than the capital of Ethiopia. It is increasingly becoming Africa’s common capital and a continental hub for dialogue, cooperation, diplomacy and the development of shared solutions.

The urban development drive under the Medemer Government has enabled Addis Ababa to register remarkable development achievements within a relatively short period. These achievements have not only transformed the city’s landscape but also enhanced its capacity to serve as an international destination.

Improved infrastructure, modern urban corridors, riverside development projects, green development initiatives, road and transport networks, as well as recreational and tourism attractions are making the city more beautiful, accessible and modern, positioning it as a preferred destination for international events.

Today, Addis Ababa is more than a meeting point for African leaders, international institutions, the business community, investors, tourists and development partners. It is a platform where the continent’s shared hopes and common destiny are discussed and shaped.

This presents significant opportunities to promote conference tourism, stimulate the city’s economy, create employment opportunities and strengthen its international competitiveness.

Adwa stands as a symbol of African unity, independence and a shared vision for the future. The decision by African political parties to convene in Addis Ababa at the historic Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, a landmark symbolizing the victory and freedom of Black people, carries profound historical, political and continental significance beyond the choice of a mere conference venue.

Adwa represents a historic victory in which Africans, through unity, bravery and self-determination, thwarted colonial ambitions and laid the historical foundation for the dignity and pride of Black people.

The gathering of African political forces at this historic site today, while commemorating their shared victory of the past, demonstrates their commitment to addressing the continent’s common challenges through dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation.

This is a historic opportunity that underscores Addis Ababa’s role not only as a capital associated with Africa’s history of liberation but also as a center for political dialogue, continental consensus, collective solutions and a shared vision for the future.

As its name suggests, Addis Ababa is becoming increasingly new and beautiful. By combining its historical and cultural heritage with modern urban development, the city is further strengthening its position as a preferred destination for political, diplomatic, economic, cultural, scientific and sporting events, according to the Office of the Mayor of Addis Ababa.

This transformation goes beyond enhancing the city’s beauty. It represents a broader vision of advancing African unity, cooperation and shared prosperity.

Addis Ababa is a common African capital where countries and international institutions meet, deliberate, develop collective solutions and bring the world together.
