The citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan maintained their tradition of joining the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in its historic, single-day tree-planting campaign under the Green Legacy Initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD)

The participants from various walks of life including the diplomatic corps, business leaders, media personnel, and civil society participated in the plantation drive organized by the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority-CDA, Islamabad. The event in Pakistan was held in solidarity with Ethiopia’s monumental domestic goal to plant 800 million seedlings in a single day.

Addressing the attendees, Melaw Getachew, Chargé d’Affaires of the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad, briefed the participants on the impact of the Green Legacy Initiative. Under this flagship program, Ethiopia has already planted more than 48 billion seedlings, he said.

“The purpose of today’s drive is to stand alongside our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia in their goal of planting 800 million seedlings today,” he remarked.

He emphasized Ethiopia’s global leadership in climate resilience, pointing to Addis Ababa’s upcoming role as the host city for the COP32 climate summit.

Zafar Bakhtawari Chairman of the Clean and Green Movement Islamabad and former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce, commended Ethiopia’s massive plantation efforts.

“The Green Legacy Initiative is completely aligned with the shared goals of our own Clean and Green Movement here in Islamabad,” Bakhtawari noted, highlighting the importance of united, global action against climate change, according to Ethiopia Embassy Islamabad.
