Members of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference’s diaspora delegation have hailed the Green Legacy Initiative as a transformative national development program that is nurturing Ethiopia’s hope for the future while reinforcing the country’s commitment to tackling climate change.
The nationwide campaign to plant 800 million tree seedlings in a single day, held under the theme “Let’s Plant Hope,” began across Ethiopia at 6:00 A. M. on Monday, mobilizing millions of citizens in one of the country’s largest environmental efforts.
Diaspora representatives who traveled from different parts of the world to participate in the Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference also joined the historic tree-planting campaign, contributing to the nationwide effort and leaving behind their own Green Legacy.
Speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency, members of the diaspora delegation said they were honored to participate in what they described as a historic initiative with lasting environmental and national significance.
Pastor Arega Shiferaw said that while many parts of the world continue to struggle with rising global temperatures and the growing impacts of climate change, Ethiopia is responding by planting billions of tree seedlings through the Green Legacy Initiative.
He noted that the program is playing a vital role in combating desertification, restoring degraded landscapes, and strengthening the country’s resilience to climate change.
Another participant, Mame Worku, described the Green Legacy Initiative as a lasting national achievement and a valuable legacy for future generations. He emphasized that the success of the initiative depends not only on planting trees but also on ensuring they are properly nurtured and protected so they can thrive for years to come.
Ustaz Mukhtar Jemal also praised the initiative, calling it one of Ethiopia’s most remarkable accomplishments in recent years. He said the nationwide participation of people from all walks of life reflects a strong sense of unity and shared responsibility in building a greener and more sustainable future.
Similarly, Mr. Newawi Musa highlighted the initiative’s significant environmental benefits, particularly its contribution to improving the climate and restoring ecosystems. He noted that the Green Legacy Initiative has earned international recognition as a model environmental campaign and said he was delighted to return to Ethiopia and take part in an effort that is inspiring hope for future generations while contributing to the global fight against climate change.
