The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, delivered a press briefing highlighting Ethiopiaโs recent diplomatic engagements, as well as key regional and international developments.
The spokesperson noted that the past two weeks have been marked by productive and wide-ranging diplomatic activities. Ambassador Nebiat underscored that Ethiopiaโs selection to host COP32 in 2027 is a testament to the international communityโs recognition of the countryโs contributions to global climate action.
Nebiat emphasized that Ethiopiaโs Green Legacy Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD), stands as a practical expression of Ethiopiaโs commitment to addressing climate change. The Ambassador further noted Ethiopiaโs advances in renewable energy, the expansion of electric-vehicle use, and ongoing efforts to develop clean and green cities through corridor development and riverside projects, all of which strengthened Ethiopiaโs candidacy to host the global summit. The selection, Nebiat added, will further elevate Ethiopiaโs diplomatic standing.
Ambassador Nebiat also highlighted the appointment of Ethiopiaโs Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, as President-Designate of COP32.

The spokesperson recalled that the Ethiopian delegationโs participation in the recent G20 Summit, led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, provided strong support for Ethiopiaโs and Africaโs key continental and global priorities.
The Ambassador added that the visits of the leaders of Malaysia and Singapore likewise demonstrated Ethiopiaโs continued focus on economic cooperation and results-oriented diplomacy.
Concluding his briefing, the spokesperson encouraged active media participation in the 3rd IGAD Media Awards, to be held in Addis Ababa this Saturday and Sunday.
