Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has been recognized as an “Early Childhood Development Champion” by the international Act for Early Years Initiative.
The recognition honors Mayor Adanech Abiebie’s leadership and the investments being made by the Addis Ababa City Administration in child development, particularly through the “Addis Ababa Future Hope Early Childhood Development Initiative.”
The initiative works to place early childhood development at the center of government policies and the global investment agenda.
The recognition was presented on behalf of the initiative’s partners by Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education.
It was awarded in collaboration with various partner organizations, including UNICEF and UNESCO.
The recognition is expected to significantly strengthen efforts to make Addis Ababa a model of city leadership in early childhood development in Africa.
