Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has congratulated residents of the capital after the city was ranked the second-most climate-resilient city in the world.
In a message celebrating the recognition, Mayor Adanech said Addis Ababa ranked first in Africa and second globally for its climate resilience.
The ranking, according to a report published by The New York Times, was based on an assessment by AlphaGeo, a geospatial company that analyzes and predicts location-based risks. The company assessed the climate resilience of 72 major cities around the world.
Against this backdrop, Addis Ababa emerged as Africa’s top-performing city and secured the second position globally.
Mayor Adanech said: “in line with the promise we made to make Addis Ababa, true to its name, a beautiful, clean and livable city, our capital is becoming a symbol of rapid urban development and a source of pride for Africa.”
The mayor also extended her congratulations to all residents of Addis Ababa, as well as everyone who has worked together and contributed to the city’s development and its growing international recognition.
