Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reaffirmed Ethiopia’s longstanding commitment to Africa’s continental journey as the continent commemorates the 24th African Union Day.
In a message marking the occasion, the Prime Minister said Ethiopia has been, and remains, a steadfast voice in Africa’s continental journey, from the OAU to the African Union, with Addis Ababa serving as the home of the continent’s Union.
“As we mark this day, we reaffirm the vision of an integrated and prosperous Africa, while looking ahead to the next frontier of our collective progress,” Prime Minister Abiy said.
Highlighting the growing importance of technology, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health, called on African leaders and young people to embrace technological sovereignty and shape the continent’s digital future on its own terms.
“In this spirit, and in my capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health, I call on Africa’s leaders and youth to embrace technological sovereignty and shape our digital future on our own terms,” he said.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to work with fellow African countries in building that future.
“Ethiopia stands ready to build that future alongside our fellow Africans,” Prime Minister Abiy said.
He concluded by extending his best wishes to Africans on the occasion, saying, “Happy African Union Day!”
