Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has called on Africans to build health sovereignty by strengthening their capacity to produce essential medicines and medical equipment, train and retain health professionals, and respond independently to pandemics and other health crises.
In a social media post, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Ethiopia today launched the 13th East Africa Healthcare Federation Conference and International Exhibition at Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.
He noted that, 130 years ago, Ethiopians courageously secured a historic victory, and said that this spirit should be renewed today by ensuring comprehensive sovereignty and self-reliance for the people.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, health sovereignty means developing the capacity to produce medicines and medical equipment, train and retain qualified health professionals, and withstands pandemics and other health emergencies without waiting for external intervention.
To advance this continental goal, Ethiopia is strengthening local production of medicines, diagnostic and examination kits, and medical equipment, he said.
