Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced in a social media post this afternoon that the city administration celebrated “Diversity Day” by showcasing some of Ethiopia’s beautiful and diverse cultural traditions that mark the transition from the old year to the New Year.
She said the Abebayesh Wey, Ashenda, Gobe, Shinoye, and Shadey dances were celebrated in grand style at the historic Adwa Victory Memorial in the capital.

Mayor Adanech noted that Ethiopia is a country endowed with a rich wealth of cultural heritage. Adding, the Government (Medemer State) is paying particular attention to preserving, nurturing, and developing these cultural assets and harnessing them for national growth and societal development.
“In our diverse city, we are also working to promote and showcase Ethiopia’s beautiful cultural traditions, ensure that they generate the economic and social benefits they can provide, and develop them into major tourism attractions,” the Mayor concluded.
