Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie, in a message delivered on her official social media account this afternoon, recalled the difficult conditions in which many residents of the city had lived for years, repeatedly suffering from floods and fire incidents.
“For years, our residents lived in great distress and under difficult conditions, repeatedly exposed to flooding and fire disasters,” she said.
“Today, however, seeing our citizen’s move into beautiful homes and living spaces that uphold their dignity, and seeing them live there happily, brings an unparalleled sense of joy,” the Mayor added.
Mayor Adanech stated that the city administration made the initiative a reality by coordinating and bringing together various stakeholders.
The Mayor further explained that the administration pooled knowledge, resources and labor from different sources. She said some provided financial support, while others voluntarily contributed their knowledge, skills, design expertise and labor to the construction work. She added that residents also demonstrated strong cooperation, placing their hopes in change and improved development.
Mayor Adanech said the combined efforts created significant collective capacity, making it possible to build a residential village and transform the surrounding area, adding that Kolfe Keranio had also undergone significant change.
Mayor Adanech said the land, people, financial resources and knowledge brought together to create the new neighborhood belonged to the community.
She said the project went beyond providing clean and decent housing, demonstrating that a shared vision, commitment and spirit of service could help pool resources, promote shared benefits, uphold citizens’ dignity, and create new opportunities and wealth.
She also called on citizens to strengthen cooperation and work together with trust and determination toward greater national development.
