Africa grows stronger when it stands together, advances when it works together, and shapes its future when it makes decisions collectively.

Although Addis Ababa is regarded as the common home of Africa, until recently, it was not a major destination for hosting continental gatherings. This was largely due to gaps in urban infrastructure, inadequate modernization, and the lack of facilities capable of providing convenient and quality services.

Over the past few years, however, significant efforts have been made to address these gaps and position Addis Ababa as a leading center in various fields. These efforts are now producing tangible results. The development of modern infrastructure and the establishment of up-to-standard service facilities have transformed the city into a preferred destination for conference tourism.

Today, Addis Ababa has developed the capacity to host major continental and international conferences attended not only by hundreds but also by tens of thousands of participants. The city is increasingly serving as a venue for such high-level gatherings.

This week, the city will host two major continental events: the African Political Parties Conference and a meeting of senior officials from the African Union and the European Union.

The Second African Political Parties Conference, themed “Governing for Growth: Political Parties as Architects of Africa’s Economic Future,” kicks off today, November 5, and will run through November 7, 2026, at the historic Adwa Victory Memorial, a symbol of African victory and pride.

These developments demonstrate that Addis Ababa is increasingly becoming a city where diverse ideas, perspectives and experiences converge, and where collective solutions to challenges facing Africa and the wider world are explored through dialogue and cooperation.

As a city symbolizing African unity and a shared destiny, Addis Ababa will continue strengthening its role as a diplomatic and dialogue hub, bringing African peoples together around the shared aspirations of peace, cooperation and common prosperity.

According to the Mayor Office of Addis Ababa, the City will continue to serve as a meeting point for Africa’s shared vision, a symbol of the continent’s collective strength through cooperation, and a platform for pursuing its common goal of prosperity.
